When looking at the average picture, you usually feel something happy and cheerful. With my figurative photo work, I want to go the opposite direction. I have my models tell me their worst day of their life. It ranges from ex girlfriends breaking up, dead dogs, losing mothers or fathers to family situations. Though when you first see these models in person, you do not see their sadness or tears. It can take a lot to let someone in and show their feelings. I use the alt-processing cyanotype because it really helps bring out the emotion that I seek. While putting the chemicals onto the paper, I use the brush strokes to my advantage. It is my main focus to use the brush strokes to allow the viewer take a second look at what is going on in the photo. When presenting this work, I decided to have them across from each other. I really wanted my viewer to take a close look at each piece of paper from the photo, then take a step back to get a different feeling. With every step back, the viewer gets a different type of emotion and that was what I was going for. Then with them being across from each other, the viewer can feel some type of conflict between the two models. It could either feel like it was as one conflict together that they both are feeling or a whole different level of confidence that the pieces hold on their own. I wanted to have the viewer feel an emotion by looking at the my two pieces.
