Artist Statement

 

 

When viewers look at my series, I want them to feel something that they do not usually feel when looking at pictures. What I wanted to portray was to have pictures that were not like other photos that people usually see. I started out asking my models the worst day of their life. I tried to pull their sadness into my pictures. By using cyanotype processing, I mainly focused on the brush strokes. It was very difficult to pull the sad and hurt from my models faces. In a way, the brush strokes worked perfectly in the way I wanted the viewer to look at the series. My main goal was to show the viewer that not all portraits are smiling and happy faces. I plan on continuing this series and possibly trying different ways to portray sadness and hurt.
